To start off our summer, we made yummy smoothies! Everyone pitched in and helped (with the help of Mrs. Zeena of course.)
We made jungle animals puppets out of foam and popsicle sticks! The kids chose their favorite animal (an elephant, lion, monkey or tiger)!

It may be summertime but reviewing our numbers, letters, colors and shapes should be no problem. We still do calendar time and games to keep the childrens' skills sharp and.
The kids have been doing many arts & crafts this summer and it has been a ton of fun! Just take a look.

This summer has been filled with playing indoors and outdoors with friends! Just look at all the fun they're having!

Pajama Party and making brownies! The kids worked together to bake brownies (with the help of Mrs. Zeena) and they turned out delicious!
They ate brownies and drank milk... perfect for a p.j. party!


Another art & craft we worked on this summer was coloring dinosaur iron-ons for Sawyer's birthday party! Look at how fun it was!


We celebrated Sawyer's dinosaur themed birthday today and we all had blast! Here's a glimpse of the party! :)

May... the month of outdoor fun, the month of mother's day and much more! Just take a look at all we have done this month.
Happy Mother's Day! This year we gave our moms a card and flowers.... but not the usual cards and flowers! Look at how creative we got!

Homemade flowers and "messy" cards... Isn't that just cute!
Roses are pink, flamingos are pink, everything is pink! To further our knowledge of pink, we colored everthing that is suppoed to be pink.

During the springtime, you can always find colorful caterpillars and butterflies. Here is what we imagine colorful caterpillars and butterflies to look like!

We also worked on recognizing past shapes we have learned and the octagon, the shape of the month.

We did many different art projects this month. The artwork shown below was chosen by the kids. The childeren picked their favorite stencils and made a collage of their favorite things!

Eggs symbolize the month of April mostly because Easter is celebrated in the month. Eggs are also the shape of an oval, the shape of the month for our curriculum.
We had an Easter party here! The kids had a lot of fun. The kids made Easter egg-shaped cards for their parents. Many of the kids wrote 'Happy Easter' and their name by themselves! Amazing! We also went Easter egg hunting. The children counted the number of eggs they collected. It was a lot of fun to see the kids count fluently and enjoy at the same time! We ate Easter themed food too. Yummy! Just check out all the fun we had:


For the letter U, we made umbrellas! The children used different colored dots to make a collage on their own umbrellas.

We made a book over the color yellow: "My Yellow Book". By doing this, we learned about the different things that are the color yellow.

We practiced counting and the shape of numbers with the help of dinosaur puzzles!

We learned and practiced the following:
-the color yellow

-recognizing the number 9 and practicing to count to 10 with the help of rhymes

- practicing and recognizing the oval shape

We are learning about rainbows this month. We learned the process behind how rainbows are formed. First rain clouds form in the sky, then a rain shower occurs. After the rain has stopped and the clouds move away, a beautiful rainbow stretches across the sky. Look at their beautiful rainbows:

We celebrated Dr.Seuss's birthday this month:
We read many books written by him like Green Eggs and Ham & One fish two fish red fish blue fish. We also did activites associated with thesse books!
Green Eggs? (made with the help of Mrs. Zeena) The children had a chance to learn how science is associated with cooking & mixing (like colors).

GREEN! We mixed colors. blue and yellow, to make the color green by fingerpainting. All age groups loved this hands on activity!


Clovers, clovers everywhere! Happy St. Patrick's Day!

We learned about the #8 by doing various activities associated with this number. We wrote, counted, and told stories with the #8.
Diamonds, the shape of the month. We have been creating many crafts with this shape! Just take a look:

The children have been learning the colors of the rainbow: red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and purple. We tested our recognition in rainbow colors by going through fruits that have one of the colors of the rainbow. For example, strawberries are red and grapes are purple. After recognizing rainbow colors in fruits, we made a rainbow fruit salad with the fruits we went over. Today was a busy and fun day! All the kids were excited today with this hands on activity. We talked about healthy foods while we ate this healthy rainbow fruit salad. Just take a look at how our day went:

We celebrated one of our friend's birthday, who turned 2 today! It was so much fun! It was Mickey Mouse themed and it was awesome! We played with parachutes & sang the Happy Birthday song to him. We ate ice cream cake & cheese pizza. The birthday boy opened his presents and we watched a Mickey Mouse Clubhouse movie. All his friends received goody bags too! We all enjoyed this amazing party! Colors, colors everywhere!
We baked Valentine Cookies (with the help of Mrs. Zeena) and had a Valentine's Day Party! At our party we exchanged gifts and enjoyed our delicious Valentine's day lunch.

The new year is here and many new things to learn!

Snowflakes and snowmans have been a big thing this month mostly because of the snowy beggining to the month of January.

The shapes, alphabet, counting, and patterns have been associated with our activities.

The children learned how to dress appropriately in this winter season.

We also had a pajama party and drank hot cocoa, which the children worked together (with the help of Mrs. Zeena) to make.
We celebrated fairy tale week, which included reading Peter Pan and watching Sleeping Beauty.

December Newsletter
Christmas time is finally here, let the holiday spirits out! The children showed their holiday spirit with many different crafts. Just take a look, I'm sure they will make you smile:


December 15th, 2009= Christmas time also means time for baking cookies! With the help of Ms. Zeena, the children worked together to bake a big chocolate chip gingerbread-shaped cookie! Just take a look at our bakers hard at work:

December 16th, 2009= During circle time, we read "The Gingerbread Man" by: Jim Aytesworth. The children enjoyed reading the book with our gingerbread man puppet. Just like the little old man and little old man, the children made their own gingerbread men with the help of Mrs. Zeena:

Our Christmas party was successful! The children enjoyed everything especially the gift exchange!

Thanksgiving is here and that means "gobble, gobble"! We did many activities that was related with our shape of the month, the triangle, our number of the month, #4, our letters of the month, F, G, H, and our color of the month, brown.
We learned all about the community workers around town such as firefighters, policemen, doctors, etc. We made a book about them and it turned out to be very nice, just take a look:

We also made a lot of turkey crafts to show our spirit of Thanksgiving:

We just wanted to thank Mrs. Julie Byington, Ian's mom, for baking us a Barney cake which was delicious! (It even looked delicious!) Shayna celebrated her 2nd birthday here at Little Hands Day School. Everyone had a great time at her party. Happy Birthday Shayna!

BOO! Did I scare you? Halloween is almost here and there is so much to learn! So far we have learned about fire safety at home. We had a special guest stop by to teach us about fire safety. He taught us about the attire firefighters wear and how to Stop Drop & Roll.

Looks like the kids had a great time!
To get ready for our Halloween party we have a lot to learn about autumn. We are in the process of learning about how the leaves change color during this time of year and how it gets cooler. We are also learning about pumpkins and scarecrows.

Later in the month we will be learning about good health and nutrition. This will help the children become aware of healty eating especially during Halloween.
Our Halloween party will be held on: October 30, 2009.

September Newletter
Alright, school is around the corner! After Labor Day, we will begin our curriculum. So get ready for homework! We will begin with the beginning of the alphabet, and will be working on our numbers, shapes, and colors. We will be having calendar time and story time, which will be a lot of fun! We will be learning to cut with our special scissors, learn to write our names and what we are learning at that time. For the older children we will be learning to sound out small lettered words in books and begin reading, which will be exciting! I can't for this year to begin and see what we have in store this year. I guarantee that we will be having a great year this year!
